Yesterday was the whirlwind RE of Atlanta tour. We were going to get a feel for some other options besides our current RE. The new practices were scrutinized by a number of factors...some of which (of course) are rather superficial but who cares. Our money.
Here's a recap in terms of (+) and (-):
9:30am appt...
Very nice reception staff (+). Overly large waiting room (-). TV in waiting area (+). Not a flat screen (-). Regis and Kelly on said not-so-flat TV (-). Mark filling in for Regis (+). Mark's stupid skinny tie with jeans (-). (You know who's comment...not mine).
Called back within reasonable amount of time (+). Very nice nurse (+). Questions about our "activities" by said nurse (-). Weird picture of Mexican woman and her corn on the wall of the exam room (-). The thought of said Mexican woman and her corn looking at my hoo-ha during exam (hilarious). Thinking I was going to have to have exam (-). Finding out is was optional (+).
Met with doctor (+). Felt SO at ease (+). Liked his demeanor (+). Liked his optimism (+). Wanted him to stop slouching in his chair (-). Realized he was just short (+). Almost cried as usual (-). But didn't (+)! Dr. feels as though ectopics may not have been true ectopics (+). Wants to test for Recurrent Pregnancy Loss (-). Freaked out by that term (-). Dr. says treat RPL with meds (+). Dr. thinks we will be able to produce high quality Day 5 Blastocyst embryos (+). Dr. assures us that he will be the one with us through the entire process (+). Dr. is ready for us to start next month (+/-). We L-O-V-E him after an hour long consult (+).
Insurance covers visit (+). Only $30 co-pay (+). Ready for lunch (+). Hubby has to go potty first (-). Annoyed because it took him so long (-). Found out it was because he was having a convo with Dr. L-O-V-E at the urinal (hilarious).
2:00pm appt...
Arrive 30 minutes early as requested to fill out more paperwork (+). Sign in and wait without so much as a hello (-). Can't help but hear receptionist make phone calls about the fact that "someone made an offer on her house, but they want her to pay closing costs, and how she is not good with numbers" (-). Annoyed by receptionist (-). Finally get paperwork which is only 1/2 a page and a signature (-). Still annoyed (-). Listen to receptionist have another phone conversation with someone named "Squirt" (-). Still annoyed (-). Become annoyed with the amount of purple used to decorate waiting room (-). Husband asks if I notice that there are only men in the waiting room besides me. Husband asks if I think they have "shark porn" (from the Friends episode we watched the night before). Start to giggle (+). Giggle-box begins to turn over (-). Get the giggle-box in check (+). Finally called back (+).
Sit in sub-waiting room (-). See LabCorp delivery-person with a mullet walk by (-). Husband and I place bets on if it was a girl or boy. Picked boy. Lost (-). Finally the doctor (+).
Dr. Female very nice (+). Again wonders if ectopics were truly ectopic (+). Wants to do another HSG (-). Says we may want to consider IUI (insemination) before moving to IVF if tubes are clear (+/-). Says IVF can sometimes still end up as an ectopic (-). Seems stumped by our case (-). Is going to consult other doctors and call me next week (+). Explains their "BOGO" plan (+). $13,500 (of course not including meds) gets us 4 chances at a baby (+). Fresh cycle, frozen cycle, fresh cycle, frozen cycle (+). Wished Dr. L-O-V-E worked at this RE (-).
So ultimately, we have decided we are leaving our current RE. But, we have a major decision to make. Go with Dr. L-O-V-E and get 1 shot at a baby or go with Dr. Female who will give us multiple attempts at a baby for the same amount of money.
Do we go with our hearts or our heads?

It's a tough call...but might I point out you actually are in a PRIME negotiating position with Dr. Love. Explain your predicament and financial temptations...see if Dr LOVE would be willing to consider a similar offer...
It can't hurt. Can it?
You know I'm personally going BOGO, and using Dr. LOVE as my back up plan if my BOGO flops (money talks)...but if I were in your position right now I think I'd just be honest with Dr. LOVE and see if he would be willing to make me an offer I couldn't refuse. These are the financial times we are living in.
See if you can get your heart and your head in the same place. (+)
Oh, and my husband says the porn at BOGO sucks...he has to bring his own. (-) ;-) Oh, and the front office staff at BOGO are duds, but the nurses are so so sweet and are making my experience completely worth it. (+) The most recent stats at Dr. Love are better (+), but the previous 2 years before that were the same. (+,-).
I'm pretty happy at BOGO...aside from the receptionist...please e-mail me and we can talk if you have any questions about my experiences...
Hope that helps a little.
First of all, I'm so glad that you've found 2 possible places to consider. If you're not completely satisfied at the current practice (names left out :o), then you definitely need to find someone that makes you happy AND you feel comfortable with!
Insurance covering treatments is HUGE! Is there a cap that your insurance will cover? With Josh's new job, we have new insurance, and they cover up to $20,000 for infertility treatments! That would almost pay for Hannah!
I say go with the hottie. With IUI's and IVF's, I was in the office sometimes 3 and 4 days a week! So it definitely helps to have some eye candy when you're there!
Oh yeah, tell Nick that Josh has a nice collection of porn, if he needs to borrow! Josh found his own when we were doing IUI's (either you have "fun" at the office or bring your own for IVF)!
No eye candy. Nick and I just really really like him. And no...no new insurance, but they were able to file it as diagnosis which I have coverage for. I'll hit you up on Facebook later and we will talk more. :)
