I am seriously getting a t-shirt made. I had my first iron infusion today and let me tell you...I feel better already! Wahoo!
It was a process today...for sure.
My day went something like this...
Arrive 10 minutes early. Wait.
Wait.
Wait.
Ask front desk if I needed to do anything else.
Wait.
Called back for vitals.
Vitals good.
Wait.
Call back for IV placement.
Go to chemotherapy/infusion room. (My hematologist is at a cancer treatment center.)
Wait.
Was told by my nurse that my insurance is still pending but they are working on getting it approved asap.
Wait.
Check Facebook.
Wait.
Was told by nurse that I would have to come back next week. Insurance is still pending.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME????
Ask if the insurance company knows I am sitting here with an IV in my arm...WAITING!
IV comes out.
Walk to front desk.
Ask for office manager...start to complain.
Nurse flags me down...insurance just approved it as a STAT order.
Walk back to infusion lab.
IV #2 goes into arm.
Bag of fluids.
Bag of iron.
Finally...getting this show on the road!
He said your body adjusts to the low iron levels over time, but if his levels dropped to where mine were he said he would more than likely pass out. Nice to know...because I have been feeling like I could pass out for some time now!
I asked the nurse how long it typically takes to feel the effects of the iron. He said usually after 3 treatments, but with my hemoglobin levels as low as they were, I might even feel better today!
And guess what? I do! So thankful!
Not out of the clear yet, but I definitely feel as though this is going to do the trick and I will start to feel and function like a normal human being that is 35 weeks pregnant.
Hopefully this will give me a little burst of energy to get Baby Andy's room finished...clothes washed, etc. and have some play time with the twins. Nice that it will be a 3 day weekend!
Happy Memorial Day!
