First Edition: What to Feed 'Em Fridays

I have been wanting to do this for awhile, but as I rummaged through the cabinets just now trying to figure out what to feed P and C for dinner I decided to sit down and post this while the pasta (again?) water boils.

What the heck do you feed these kids?

This is my biggest parenting dilemma of the moment. I need something more than cheese toast, grilled cheese, etc. I need to branch out. I need to (cue the dramatic music)...C-O-O-K.

Nothing fancy you know...but just something that works for a few days and is healthy and is kid-friendly. So. My (ahem) goal is to post (and try that week) a new recipe every Friday.

Let me know if you have any I can try.

No real words of wisdom, I struggle with that myself. They usually eat what we are eating for dinner, and I make whole grain pancakes or eggs for breakfast. Followed by yo baby. Lunch is what ever finger foods I can come up with. I can send you an easy recipe for whole grain pancake mix if you like.

I would recommend a good pizza cutter...it works great for cutting things up. I also use a mini food processer and a hand held food chopper.

My twins are just under 10mos and big hits are:
Pasta- seriously, they'd eat it every day if I'd let them
Bananas-Blueberries-Mango-Avocado (basically any fruit safe for them to eat now that they can eat as finger food)
Grilled Cheese
Ground turkey meatballs
Ravioli
Scrambled Eggs
Cheese

I struggle with making sure they get protein, but my Dr reminded me that since they are still on formula, they really are getting all they need from the formula as far as calories, fat, etc. goes. Looking forward to seeing your recipes!

When C&G were between 12-18 months they loved a chunky chicken noodle soup. Big chunks of chicken, and either egg noodles or rice and carrots, celery and onion. They went nuts for it. Now....it's totally hit or miss. Last night they ate shrimp and penne with vodka sauce and fresh basil, I was shocked. Tonight, they'll protest and demand chicken nuggets, and I will likely cave. So hard, this feeding them thing.

Honestly, we pretty much feed them everything we eat. It has forced us to include more fruit and vegies in our diet and that's a good thing, I think.

You should feed them what you're eating. Then, when they refuse to eat it, you feed them bananas and yogurt. ;)
